SURVEYING EDUCATION Obtaining registration and licensure as a professional land surveyor is a process that involves several years of education and experience. In Texas, an applicant must earn a Bachelors Degree in an approved program, gain experience in a position of responsible charge for a designated period of time, and pass a 16 hour examination administered in two parts - a portion after completion of the formal education and the remainder after the required work experience is completed. In East Texas there is a local opportunity to obtain the required formal education. Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler have cooperated to create a degree program which meets the educational requirements of the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying. If you are interested in pursuing a career in land surveying, we encourage you to check into this program.
